A body found floating in Spanaway Lake Friday afternoon could be the man who disappeared during a Fourth of July gathering at the park, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies responded to a 1:44 p.m. call Friday of a drowning at Spanaway Lake Park. Deputies and firefighters removed their gear and waded into the lake to retrieve the body, said Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss Jr.

A 24-year-old man went missing Tuesday at the park. He was reported missing the next day, Moss said. His family has been notified of the discovery.

A cause of death and positive identification of the body will be determined by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office. The person had been dead for at least a day, Moss said.
