A motorcyclist from Tacoma died after a hit-and-run with a speeding car in Fife early Wednesday morning, Washington State Patrol trooper John Dattilo said.

A white BMW sedan hit the motorcyclist while going north at around 3:20 a.m. on Interstate 5 near 54th Avenue East, troopers said. The BMW was found flipped on it’s roof about a mile away.

The motorcyclist, a 48-year-old woman from Tacoma, died at the scene, troopers said. She was driving a black 2006 Yamaha XVS-1100.

The driver of the BMW, believed to be a man from Auburn in his 20s, was wearing a white T-shirt and black pants, troopers said. The man ran from the scene, and troopers looked for him using a K-9 unit.

A Washington State Patrol investigation is underway.

The HOV lanes and left lanes going both directions were blocked for close to four hours, per Dattilo. All lanes of Interstate 5 are cleared, Dattilo tweeted at 8:30 a.m.
