Active SWAT incident in Puyallup ends after barricaded man escapes arrest, police say
The man who barricaded himself in a house in the 600 block of 17th Avenue Southwest in Puyallup successfully fled from police, despite the presence of a SWAT team and attempted negotiations, police said Saturday evening.
“Unfortunately, he escaped,” said police spokesperson Jason Visnaw.
After closing the surrounding roadway for hours, police said shortly before 7 p.m. that the incident had resolved, and the roadway would reopen shortly. The original confrontation started earlier in the afternoon, according to a police department tweet posted around 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
The area around 17th Avenue Southwest was closed between 6th and 7th streets Southwest, police said.
Visnaw told the News Tribune the incident related to domestic violence.
“We have probable cause to arrest him for a felony domestic violence no contact order violation from yesterday. And now another misdemeanor violation of the order today.”
The victim on the protection order was not in the home and is safe, Vinsaw said.
