Tacoma firefighters battle Thursday blaze in city’s Stadium district as onlookers gather

A fire in what is reported to be a vacant structure drew Tacoma firefighters to the city’s Stadium district near Wright Park Thursday night, along with a crowd of onlookers.

Information is still limited. As of 10:07, p.m., flames were still shooting out of the building. Firefighters on three ladder trucks were shooting water on the fire as well as from hoses on the ground.

It is unclear how many people have been injured but at least one firefighter was taken away from the scene in an ambulance. Tacoma Fire communications personnel have not responded to inquiries. Tacoma Police spokesperson Shelbie Boyd said the location is near North 2nd Street and North I Street, where two police officers are directing traffic.
