Five injured in single vehicle crash on SR 410 after driver falls asleep at wheel

One driver and four passengers between the ages of 25 and 28 are injured after a single vehicle crash on westbound State Route 410 near Greenwater this morning.

At about 6:35 a.m., a black Jeep traveled into a right side ditch near milepost 47. The vehicle continued through the ditch, hitting a concrete culvert and a tree before it came to rest. The suspected driver, 27, fell asleep at the wheel, and was arrested on suspicion has been cited with 2nd degree negligent driving, according to the Washington State Patrol.

All five people have been transported to hospitals. Three passengers were not wearing seatbelts, according to a WSP release. WSP Trooper Rick Johnson said the severity of their injuries is unclear. One passenger is at Harborview Medical Center and has the most serious injuries, he said.

The vehicle was totaled at the scene. Drugs and alcohol were not involved in the incident.
