A second person has died after a weekend crash in Tacoma on I-5 near state Route 16

A 13-year-old girl is the second person to die afte a two-car wreck that occurred on southbound Interstate 5 in Tacoma on Sunday night.

The girl died at Tacoma General Hospital, the Washington State Patrol reported Wednesday. She was a passenger in a Mazda that was hit by a pickup. A 41-year-old Tacoma woman also riding the Mazda was declared dead at the scene, state troopers said.

WSP told the News Tribune that it dos not know the exact day the girl died.

The Mazda, which was carrying four people, became disabled and was blocking a lane just north of the interchange to state Route 16 when it was hit by a truck traveling south at about 9:23 p.m, according to a previous News Tribune article.

The pickup was driven by a 24-year-old Federal Way man who was not hurt.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation. Troopers said they do not suspect alcohol or drugs were a factor.
