Pierce deputies think they’ve IDed hit-and-run driver who critically injured skateboarder

The driver involved in a hit-and-run collision that left a skateboarder in critical condition is an 80-year-old woman, according to Pierce County sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies learned Tuesday, Sept. 5, that someone posted an online report Sept. 3 stating they hit someone on the roadway, according to Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss.

On the morning of Sept. 3, a 27-year-old man was riding his skateboard north in the 15700 block of Waller Road when he was hit by a Ford sedan that drove off. The incident occurred at about 2:45 a.m, according to a Facebook post by the Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators went to the woman’s home on Tuesday to interview her and look at her car, which showed damage, and it was impounded. The woman was not arrested and the case is under investigation.

Moss said his last information is the skateboarder was in the hospital on life support. A GoFundMe created Wednesday, Sept. 6, reported that the man died due to his extensive injuries. The News Tribune has reached out to the man’s family.
