The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office has released the name of a man found fatally shot in Parkland.

James Pratt, 63 of Lakewood, died May 10 due to a gunshot wound in the abdomen with the manner of his death being a homicide, according to a news release.

Pratt was found bleeding behind a barbershop in the 12800 block of Pacific Ave South. Fire crews discovered that Pratt had been shot, and he was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He was not cooperative with investigators, according to a previous News Tribune article.

Adam Faber, spokesperson for the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, said there are no charges filed against the person suspected of shooting Pratt. An investigation concluded it to be a self-defense situation, Faber said, and prosecutors would need new evidence beyond what they currently know to charge the suspected shooter.
