A fire at a Fife U-Haul business severely damaged the front office and a small apartment inside the building.

Reports of the fire came in about 7:13 a.m. Friday. It was in the 4500 Block of 20th Street East. Heavy smoke filled the area before crews put out the fire.

Tacoma Fire Department spokesman Joe Meinecke said the fire was contained to the front part of the building, which has an office and small apartment. There is significant damage to that portion of the building, but the rest of the business remains intact.

Four of the people were displaced, and the American Red Cross is assisting them. There were no injuries, and the cause is under investigation.
