Armed robbery suspect crashes into fire hydrant, tries to escape arrest in Parkland
An armed robbery suspect was arrested in Parkland Saturday morning after fleeing from deputies and crashing his car twice.
Pierce County deputies were dispatched at 7:33 a.m. to an armed robbery at a convenience store located at 138th Street and Pacific Avenue South. Through surveillance footage, deputies saw the license plate of the suspect’s dark gray car. The car also had a broken tail light, according to Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Darren Moss.
Deputies learned at 8:01 a.m. that the suspect’s vehicle crashed at 112th Street East and Waller Road East. Reaching the scene, deputies confirmed the Acura matched the description of the car used in the robbery and saw the broken tail light. When they tried make a felony stop, the suspect took off in the car, Moss said.
Deputies pursued the suspect and caught him at 128th and Waller when he crashed into a light pole. He was arrested and the victim of the robbery identified him. A gun was discovered on the floor of the Acura, Moss said.
