Showers stop Saturday morning and snow levels will lower for the mountain passes throughout the weekend.

The forecast shows patchy fog until 2 p.m. Saturday in Pierce County, according to the National Weather Service.

Afterward, the sun will come out. Temperatures will reach 43 degrees, with a chance of light wind.

The Washington State Department of Transportation gave drivers a few fog tips on X, formerly known as Twitter. Put your lights on, allow more following distance between you and the car in front of you, and slow down.

Lately, heavy fog has appeared in the South Sound at certain points of the day, especially during evening commute hours.

The break from rain wont last long, according to NWS. The forecast shows showers return for Sunday Christmas Eve and Monday Christmas Day. Both days have about a 50 percent chance of rain.

Sunday it will start to rain around 5 a.m., but showers should hold off until around 11 a.m. for Christmas morning, according to NWS.

Heavy rain is expected through Christmas night, looking like Pierce and Thurston counties won’t have a white Christmas.

Rain and snow levels are expected to pick up back up next week between Monday and Thursday, according to NWS.

Snow on the pass

If you’re planning to travel over Snoqualmie Pass this weekend, conditions will be better than Friday, but still drive prepared.

I-90 had multiple collisions and spin outs Friday, with snow on the road. Lanes were closed for a few hours in both directions due to collisions.

The forecast shows conditions dry Saturday, mostly sunny and temperatures reaching 30 degrees.

Sunday has a light chance of snow in the morning and higher chances in the evening. Temperatures will dip slightly lower only reaching 28 degrees.

Between 4 p.m.. and 10 p.m. on Monday the pass is predicted to get one to three new inches of snow. Rain will follow through the night.

Before traveling check conditions at each pass in the state on the WSDOT real time mountain pass map, and keep the proper equipment such as chains in your car.
