Kapowsin drivers: Road will stay closed until crews can repair culverts

Pierce County is alerting Kapowsin area drivers about a road closure. The 13900 block of 288th Street East will be closed until crews can make “emergency culvert repairs.”

The road closed “between Orting Kapowsin Hwy & 132nd Ave E.,” according to a Tuesday post by Pierce County because crews needed to access “erosion concerns.”

They made a second post Friday giving an update on when work will take place.

When asked about the repairs, Erin Babbo, a spokesperson for Pierce County Planning and Public Works, said crews will need to replace a pipe.

“We are finalizing plans to make emergency culvert repairs at this location next week,” the post said.

The tentative plan is to re-open the road Dec. 29, Babbo said.

She added that if work takes longer than expected, Pierce County will announce updates via social media and piercecountywa.gov/alert.

Until repairs have been made, drivers will need to use the detour route, which is “from State Route 161 to Kapowsin Highway East to Orting Kapowsin Highway East,” according to the Pierce County post.
