WA transportation website crashes, taking down key travel information

The Washington State Department of Transportation website was down Wednesday morning, disrupting the flow of travel information online.

Statewide traffic cameras, online commercial vehicle permits, the state’s travel map, ferry schedules and mobile app were all impacted, causing major disruptions for people attempting to track the chronically late ferries or navigate mountain passes.

WSDOT gave no estimate for when the website would be in full working order. The agency posted on social media platform X shortly after 7 a.m., saying it would “do the best we can” to provide information on its social media platforms.

A “cybersecurity incident” targeting the real-time information flow crashed the site in early November, according to WSDOT staff. No personal information was accessed, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing, staff said.

No other information about Wednesday’s website crash was immediately available.
