Three teens allegedly used an assault rifle and pistol to rob a Summit cannabis store Tuesday night before being shot at by a security guard, according to the Pierce County’s Sheriff’s department.

The incident began just after 11 p.m. when sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery at a cannabis store in the 11500 block of Canyon Road East.

Arriving deputies learned the suspects abandoned their car, which has been stolen in Seattle, behind a grocery store on Canyon Road, just south of 112th Street East. Deputies soon saw two juveniles who matched the suspects’ description walking on 112th. They were detained.

At about the same time, Lakewood Police officers — including police dog “K9 Ice” — tracked evidence from the vehicle.

Ice led them to the third suspect, hiding under a semi-trailer. When deputies examined his hiding spot, they found a loaded .38 revolver and a loaded AK-47 rifle along with a mask, cash and marijuana canisters. The rifle, the Sheriff’s Department said, had been in reach of the suspect.

Victims in the crime were able to identify all of the suspects. The boy who carried the rifle is 16 years old, the driver is 15 and a 14-year-old carried the revolver. None of them had been hit by the guard’s gunfire but their getaway car, a Toyota Yaris, sustained bullet holes.

The juvenile suspects were booked into Remann Hall for suspicion of first degree robbery, first degree assault, possession of a stolen vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm.
