Graham man has died from injuries sustained in Pierce County crash last month, WSP says
A Graham man has died from injuries sustained in a December crash in the South Hill area, the Washington State Patrol reported Friday.
Michael Gardoski, 58, was driving his 2009 Chevrolet Aveo north on state Route 161 on Dec. 6. As he approached Sanitary Fill Road, a 43-year-old man driving a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta west on Sanitary Fill Road turned left onto southbound state Route 161, and the Chevrolet struck the Jetta.
The incident took place close to 3 p.m that day., according to a Washington State Patrol media release.
The Jetta came to a rest in the center turn lane of state Route 161. The Chevrolet came to a rest in a ditch on the east side of state Route 161. As a result of the crash, the roadway was partially blocked for 16 minutes, the release said.
Gardoski died in the hospital this week from his injuries while the driver of the Jetta was not injured. Both vehicles were damaged, the release said.
WSP determined the cause of the crash was the Jetta failing to yield the right of way, the release said.
There were reportedly no drugs or alcohol involved in the crash, the release said.
