1 killed, 1 in custody after overnight shooting in Tacoma, police say

A woman was found dead and a man is in custody after an overnight shooting in Tacoma, police say.

About 1:45 a.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to a residential area in the 1700 block of East 61st Street near Portland Avenue after a report of a shooting.

Officers arrived and found a woman, 39, who appeared to have been shot multiple times.

The Tacoma Fire Department pronounced the woman dead at the scene, according to police.

A man at the scene was contacted by police and then taken into custody.

Detectives are investigating the incident as a homicide, according to police.
