Students at Pierce College District were being evacuated from the Fort Steilacoom and Puyallup campuses after the district received a threat Monday.

“Pierce Alert: We are aware of a threat being investigated by police. Evacuate campuses and watch for more info. Move work and classes online where possible,” the college district posted on Facebook and X.

The school’s website said the Fort Steilacoom and Puyallup campuses were being closed out of caution.

The college received an emailed threat Sunday of a possible explosive device at the Lakewood campus. The person who the email address returned to did not have knowledge of the threat, Lakewood police spokesman Sgt. Charles Porche told the News Tribune on Monday.

No arrests have been made because the threat was deemed to not be credible, Porche said.

Detectives continue to investigate the threat, but Porche said that the college made the decision to evacuate the campus without the knowledge of the Police Department.

The college district announced Monday afternoon that both campuses would be open Tuesday for normal operations.
