One person is in custody and a road in Puyallup has been closed in both directions following a head-on crash, Puyallup police announced on social media Sunday afternoon.

Police said that Shaw Road East was closed in the 1600 block just before 5 p.m.

“Alternate routes are advised,” police said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Police and fire are on scene.”

Police also said that one person has been arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault because they also are suspected of driving under the influence.

“The road closure will be for several hours so the major collision response team can investigate the collision,” police said.

Shaw Road East runs north and south between East Pioneer and 23rd Avenue Southeast.
