One person dead in Parkland after garage is engulfed in flames, firefighters say

A house fire in Parkland killed one person on Tuesday evening, according to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.

Fire crews were dispatched to a house fire in the 800 block of 107th Street South. The garage was engulfed in flames, and the fire had spread to the house when crews arrived, Central Pierce Fire & Rescue said in a Facebook post.

At about 8:28 p.m., they wrote that an adult who was the only person in the housedied.

The victim was a man and the fire damaged the entire house, according to a Central Pierce Fire & Rescue spokesperson.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the post said.

4 p.m. update: The preliminary cause of the fire was most likely the result of a tank top LPG heater located too closely to combustibles, according to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue on Wednesday.

The Pierce County Fire Marshal’s Office is still conducting an investigation.
