A shooting that ultimately took the life of a 17-year-old girl Saturday night was not a random incident, according to Tacoma police.

Police believe the victim and suspect knew each other, police spokesman William Muse said Sunday, although he was unsure of their relationship.

About 8:20 p.m., police were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 1800 block of South 15th Street after a report of a possible shooting.

Upon arrival, police learned the girl, who had suffered a gunshot wound, was transported to an area hospital by a private vehicle where she would ultimately die.

Muse said the girl was shot on the grounds of the complex.
