A woman was arrested in Tacoma on March 29 on suspicion of alleged aggravated assault and first-degree theft after hitting a man with an ax, stealing his car and then stabbing an Uber driver.

Tacoma Police spokesperson William Muse said police were dispatched at around 3:30 p.m. on Friday to the 1100 block of South Highland Street. A man called 911 and stated his car was being stolen by a known person. In the call, police could hear the man warn the suspect not to hit him with an object.

A witness called dispatch and said a woman had hit the man with an ax. The woman then fled in the man’s vehicle. The man was transported by Tacoma firefighters to a hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Muse said the man’s vehicle was located in the 1800 block of South Market Street. While recovering the vehicle, police received a call about another incident involving the same woman.

At 5:05 p.m. officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Ruston Way. It was reported an Uber driver had been stabbed and their vehicle was stolen by the same woman in the earlier incident.

The Uber driver, an adult male, was stabbed in the chest and arms multiple times. Muse said a community member applied a tourniquet to the Uber driver before they were transported to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Muse said it appeared the woman contacted the Uber driver after he dropped off a client near where she left the previous stolen car on South Market Street. He then drove her to the Ruston Way location. Muse said the two did not know each other.

Police received a report of a vehicle matching the description of the stolen Uber in the 7400 block of East F Street. When police arrived they found the 21-year-old woman hiding in the yard of a nearby residence.

The woman was arrested and transported to the Pierce County Jail on two counts of suspicion of aggravated assault and two counts of suspicion of first-degree theft.
