New Chick-fil-A was planned for Puyallup-area site. Here’s what’s being considered now

Plans for the site of a longtime Puyallup-area restaurant that ended operations late last year appear to have changed.

In March 2023, a proposal for a new drive-thru Chick-fil-A was submitted to Pierce County Planning and Development officials. The restaurant was to be built at the site of the former House of Kee and an adjacent vacant parcel, both with the address of 15305 Meridian E. Chick-fil-A was proposing to buy the lots last spring, according to filings with the county.

House of Kee closed in December 2023. Before that, a representative with the chicken chain confirmed with The News Tribune it was considering a second Puyallup-area location for a drive-thru, without specifying an address.

New plans have been discussed with the county this year — with multiple new buildings proposed.

Kee Four Seasons LLC, affiliated with William Kee, owns the original two House of Kee-related parcels, and Bryan Anderson owns a third, adjacent vacant parcel at the corner of Meridian East and 152nd Street East.

Meeting notes from March of this year indicate the two property owners along with project applicant Azure Green Consultants of Puyallup submitted information to the county for the three parcels.

The new plans would include a fast-food restaurant, auto-lube shop and bank, each with a drive-thru, according to information submitted earlier this year.

The lots are zoned Town Center and located within the South Hill Community Plan area, according to the planning notes recorded with the county. A “pre-screening triage” application was filed with the county April 22 regarding plans to demolish the existing restaurant building.

Anderson last summer submitted a proposal for an oil-change facility at his parcel. Filings indicated what appeared to be development of a Take 5 Oil Change, which has locations in Lacey, Pasco, Spokane and Spokane Valley.

Boise-based Saranac Holdings, a franchise owner for Washington Take 5 sites, was in on that proposal last year.

A Saranac representative did not respond to a request for comment as to whether Saranac is still involved.

Meanwhile, Chick-fil-A told The News Tribune in a statement on Friday in response to questions via email that it “is still pursuing a new location in the Puyallup area,” but offered no further information on where or timing of any opening, similar to last year’s response.

A media representative for the county’s Planning & Public Works Department stated that so far, there’s been a “customer information meeting” with the project applicant.

“This type of meeting allows staff to explain site constraints and permit requirements based on an applicant’s conceptual site plan,” Christina Rohila, public information specialist with the department, told The News Tribune in response to questions.

“The next step in the process would be for the applicant to submit building permits. That has not occurred. Until such time, the site plan remains conceptual,” Rohila noted.
