Gig Harbor fire under investigation after blaze damages outbuildings, detached garage
A fire damaged a detached garage and several outbuildings Saturday night in Gig Harbor, fire crews announced on social media.
About 10 p.m., crews were dispatched to the 3600 block of Point Fosdick Drive after reports of a brush fire. Residents reported hearing the sounds of explosions.
Fire crews arrived to find several outbuildings and a detached garage on fire.
Although explosions were heard, Gig Harbor Fire spokeswoman Tina Curran said those sounds likely were created by common household items, such as gasoline for a lawnmower set off by the fire.
The cause of the fire is still to be determined, she said.
The Pierce County Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the blaze, according to the social media post. No injuries were reported.
Fire crews discovered there were no fire hydrants in the area, so they relayed hose lines between multiple fire engines and a water tender to fight the blaze, according to the post. They fought the fire defensively to protect a home and 30-foot RV trailer that ultimately were not damaged, the post reads.
West Pierce Fire & Rescue, Tacoma fire and South Kitsap Fire also responded to the blaze.
