Journey Level Electrician (Equipment)
- Department: Equipment Maintenance
- Type: Full-time
- Salary: $57.20 - $63.56, hourly
- Description: The journey level electrician is responsible for maintenance and repairs on a broad range of Port-owned equipment including container gantry cranes, straddle carriers, automobiles, and other powered equipment. Work includes troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems, motors, PLCs, engines, drive train components, hydraulic systems, and other related items.
- Requirements: A minimum education is a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent and trade school, related military or college-level training in the electrical field, a minimum of five years of experience performing a variety of skilled equipment electrical work. Must have First Aid/CPR training and must maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and/or CDL as required.
Project Manager I, Environmental
- Department: Environmental

- Salary: $84,636 - $135,348 annually
- Description: The Project Manager I, Environmental is part of the Remediation group that is responsible for managing projects that support the Port’s environmental policies, strategic plan, and business objectives. This person is responsible for ensuring the Port’s developments, assets management, operations, plans, initiatives, and routine activities comply with environmental laws and regulations and assisting with the development of environmental policies and programs.
- Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, environmental planning, resource management, geology or environmental engineering, five years of progressively responsible experience in positions requiring analytical ability, working knowledge of environmental laws and programs, and environmental science; public speaking, written communication, coordination, and troubleshooting, a relevant master’s degree may be substituted for up to two years of work experience.
Network Infrastructure Engineer II

- Salary: $94,740 - $146,844, annually
- Description: The Network Infrastructure Engineer II is responsible for supporting multi-protocol routers, multi-layer switches, network devices and network management systems, collaborating with business sponsors and stewards to address network, video management systems, cameras, gates and access controls system issues and maintains the network Infrastructure and is responsible for performing security hardening of the installation, configuration, and administration of networking components.
- Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in computing or technology-related field is required or four years of relevant experience. A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience supporting and troubleshooting a business network and a Cisco CCNP certification is required.
Journey Level Electrician (Facilities)
- Department: Facilities Maintenance
- Type: Full-time
- Salary: $57.20 - $63.56, hourly
- Description: Perform skilled work in electrical repair, preventative maintenance in commercial building offices, garages, warehouses, piers and wharfs, troubleshoot, inspect, repair, and service a wide variety of systems including electrical infrastructure, telephone systems and fire systems and install new equipment and/or systems.
- Requirements: A High School Diploma, or GED and a minimum of five years of experience performing a variety of skilled facilities maintenance work in a field such as electrical controls and/or HVAC. A Washington State EL01 Journeyman or Master Electrician License or EL07 Electrical Maintenance License, First Aid/CPR training and a valid Washington State driver’s license is also required.

- Description: The freight coordinator sets up containers in the IPRO rail program for loading to rail cars, prepares the documentation and coordinates with the terminal and railcar coordinators for the receipt of export cargo arriving by rail and records CBP and USDA releases and holds for import breakbulk, monitors and records steamship releases.
- Requirements: A high school diploma or a GED, a minimum of two years of experience in transportation or related responsibilities and the ability to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification.
Internship opportunities at the Port of Tacoma
The Port of Tacoma is currently hiring interns for the government affairs department, environmental department and the contracts department.
The three internships mentioned below are expected to start on or around June 1 and will last up to three months. The amount of weekly hours that interns work vary and depend on the specific internship. Port of Tacoma interns are not eligible to receive benefits.
The following internships are available:
- Department: Government Affairs
- Type: Internship
- Deadline: April 30 at 11:59 p.m.
- Salary: $20 - $25, hourly
- Description: The relation intern will assist the port’s community relations team in the execution of the port’s summer outreach activities and will also engage and educate the public about the port through a variety of events including public tours and booths at select public festivals and events.
- Requirements: Must be enrolled in an accredited school, college or university, must provide acceptable proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States and must possess or obtain a valid driver’s license within 30 days of employment.

- Salary: $20 - $25, hourly
- Description: The environmental intern will assist the port’s environmental team in establishing a network of wildlife cameras at the port’s Upper Clear Creek Habitat site to document beaver activity and impacts.
- Requirements: Must be enrolled in an accredited school, college or university, must provide acceptable proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States and must possess or obtain a valid driver’s license within 30 days of employment.

- Description: The grants intern will assist the port’s grants and contracts teams by reviewing, proofreading and providing feedback on grant applications and related materials. This intern will also research and compare funding opportunities and will support the grants specialist in preparing materials for grant-related meetings.
- Requirements: Must be enrolled in an accredited school, college or university, must provide acceptable proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States and must possess or obtain a valid driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
