Enjoy the cool mornings while you can — a blast of heat is headed for the South Sound
If you are a big fan of rainy and gloomy weather, enjoy it while it lasts. Summer is fast approaching.
Rain is expected Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
There may be a thunderstorm after 11 a.m. Monday. Rain is expected to continue through the night.
A 50 percent chance of rain is expected Tuesday, and the sun may be around for a bit.
The sun will shine Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, setting the stage for what could be the warmest days of the year so far, forecasters said — just in time for wildfire season.
May 4 is Wildfire Community Preparedness Day, a public-service campaign promoted by the nonprofit National Wildfire Protection Association. Washington state had 1,880 wildfires in 2023, according to a news release from the state Fire Marshal’s Office. It is the second-highest number recorded by the state Department of Natural Resources.
To reduce the risk of wildfires, residents must remove fuel sources such as dead vegetation away from homes and other structures. They must also keep tabs on emergency alerts.
Residents must also be prepared by having an emergency kit with items such as food, important documents and a first aid kit. They must also listen to emergency personnel and evacuate when told.
