Is there a story you want us to Reality Check?

We’re sure you have some suggestions, so send us your tips and help us get started on a new News Tribune coverage series that aims to regularly fact check claims on local issues and to hold leaders and institutions accountable.

This new series — called Reality Check — includes a steady stream of stories that will raise the profile of our local accountability journalism. We’re pushing for truth and transparency, and we’ll get you the facts quickly.

All of our reporters will be contributing to this project, because accountability reporting is critical all around us.

Some of what we’ll answer:

  • Do promises stack up with reality?
  • Why are local leaders making the decisions they do?

  • Who’s influencing policy and why?

One of our most recent Reality Check stories is from Peter Talbot, who received a reader question about uniformed law enforcement officers working at grocery stores. Peter quickly looked into the issue to better understand department policies and why more local stores are employing security. There’s also Alexis Krell’s recent story about the Narrows Bridge and why the Department of Transportation can’t shift routes when there are major repairs.

These are just a couple of many Reality Checks we’ll tackle to keep you informed about the people and policies that shape our communities.

And as I said at the top: We can’t do it alone.
