Over 20K people were without power Monday in Pierce County. Here’s where things stand

Over 20,000 people in the southern areas of Pierce County woke up to a widespread power outage Monday.

The outage affected people living near Spanaway and Graham for several hours. Tacoma Public Utilities reported that the outage was caused by a large fir tree that fell onto transmission lines. A spokeswoman told The News Tribune that high winds were another factor in the outage.

The number of those affected fell to 5,600 people by around 9 a.m. as TPU crews worked to remove the fir tree. Power was not restored for most people until around 12:30 p.m. As of 1:15 p.m., about 1,800 people near Graham were without power, according to the TPU outage map.

Crews were working on remaining minor outages, according to TPU on X.
