New pickleball courts coming to lakefront park in Pierce County. Here’s what we know

The Lakewood City Council has approved contract services to build new pickleball courts at the lakefront Harry Todd Park.

Construction on four pickleball courts is expected to begin next year and be completed by fall 2025, according to the council agenda packet.

The $700,000 price will be paid for with grant funding from the Recreation and Conservation Office Youth Athletic Facilities Fund, according to city documents. A $89,679 contract for design services with Robert W. Droll, Landscape Architect and Associates was approved unanimously by the council Monday.

Harry Todd Park is a 17-acre lakefront park in the Tillicum neighborhood that has a swimming beach, fishing pier, boat docks, playground, bathrooms, two sports fields and a picnic shelter.

The preliminary design of the pickleball courts includes two adaptive courts and two competitive courts built next to the Commencement Bay Rowing Club building and North Thorne Lane Southwest.

The plan is to also build four accessible parking spots and an asphalt path connecting the parking lot to the courts and an existing basketball court, according to the site development plan.
