Every kid’s sweet fantasy became reality Monday evening when ice cream bars fell from the sky.

Unfortunately for treat-deprived Tacoma children, the flying fudgesicles spilled out onto the rocky road of state Route 16 near the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

It was enough to make even adults scream.

No one was injured when the three-wheeled ice cream truck tipped over in the westbound lanes as its driver was headed home, according to a scoop posted on X by Washington State Patrol spokesperson Trooper John Dattilo.

The dozens of creamy treats that flew from the truck’s cooler met their end in SR 16’s commuter lane.

Some of the bars were disposed of, some were packed back into the cooler but none can be sold, Dattilo said. As far as he knew, none of the troopers involved investigating the incident partook of any frozen desserts.

“It’s too cold out and all the troopers are on diets,” he said, apparently in good humor.
