A pedestrian has died after she was hit by a semi-truck Thursday morning in Pierce County near McKenna.

The semi-truck was driving eastbound on state Route 702 near 40th Avenue South when it struck a woman in her 70s, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper John Dattilo on X.

Washington State Patrol troopers were dispatched at 8:24 a.m. to the scene. The road is fully blocked, with detours in place at Eighth Avenue and 40th Avenue South, Dattilo said.

Investigators are still working to determine what happened, including whether or not the pedestrian was in the roadway at the time of the crash.
