Pedestrian hit and killed in south Pierce County by Thurston driver has been identified

A 79-year-old pedestrian who was hit and killed in south Pierce County near McKenna last week has been identified, according to the Washington State Patrol.

About 7:20 a.m. July 18, Dae S. Hwang of Roy was walking in an unknown direction along eastbound state Route 702 at 40th Avenue South, according to the State Patrol.

Troopers say she attempted to cross the highway and was struck by a 30-year-old male driver from Rainier. He was driving a truck, according to the State Patrol.

Hwang died at the scene, according to the State Patrol.

During the investigation, the road was blocked for more than three hours, troopers say.
