A man and woman were hospitalized after they were found with gunshot wounds during a suspected domestic dispute early Sunday morning, according to the Tacoma Police Department.

About 7 a.m., police were dispatched to that dispute in the 1100 block of East 35th Street, which is south of Interstate 5 and east of state Route 7 in Tacoma.

Once at the scene, police learned a man had allegedly unlawfully entered the home and was preventing two other adults from leaving the residence.

Police tried to calm the situation, then SWAT responded to the scene.

During the ensuing negotiations, one adult was released from the home. Shortly thereafter, shots were heard and SWAT personnel entered the residence to find the following: an adult woman with multiple gunshot wounds and an adult man with a single gunshot wound.

Both were taken to area hospitals, according to police.

Police are investigating the incident as unlawful imprisonment with aggravated assault.

No shots were fired by law enforcement during the incident, according to police.
