A 58-year-old Federal Way man is dead after he crashed his sports car into another vehicle carrying three people Wednesday in Pierce County.

The man was driving his 1995 Chevrolet Corvette on eastbound state Route 512 at Canyon Road near Summit in the second lane. A 2013 Hyundai Elantra was driving west on state Route 512, according to a Washington State Patrol news release.

The Corvette crossed all the lanes and struck a cable barrier on the left shoulder. The Chevrolet then drove into the westbound lanes and struck the Hyundai around 8:54 p.m, the release said.

The Corvette came to a rest in the second lane and the Hyundai stopped in the first lane, the release said. The Corvette driver died at the scene.

A 51-year-old woman, 18-year-old woman and 15-year-old girl were in the Hyundai. They were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They were all reportedly wearing a seat belt.

The release said that the Corvette driver was not wearing a seat belt. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
