Crash on SR 509 through Port of Tacoma sends 1 to hospital Friday afternoon

UPDATE 5 p.m.: All lanes are now open, WSDOT reports.

UPDATE 3:20 p.m.: One (right) lane is now open, WSP reports.

A one-vehicle crash on state Route 509 through the Port of Tacoma Friday afternoon sent one person to a hospital and closed the northbound lanes.

The crash, near Alexander Avenue, was reported around 2 p.m. A vehicle collided into a barrier, according to Washington State Patrol spokesperson Trooper John Dattilo. The driver was seriously injured, he said.

The northbound lanes of SR 509 are closed between Alexander and Taylor Way while police conduct an investigation. The state Department of Transportation is reporting increased congestion in the area.
