New fitness center coming to Sixth Avenue would be its second Pierce County location
A new fitness center appears to be on the way for Tacoma’s Sixth Avenue, according to new business documents online.
Building plans were filed Aug. 6 with the City of Tacoma proposing a new Crunch Fitness at 5401 6th Ave., Suite C in the Sixth Avenue Plaza.
According to the application, which had not been initially processed as of Wednesday, building plans call for the new Crunch Fitness to include locker rooms, baths, showers, tanning, “hydromassage equipment, including associated HVAC distribution,” along with additional utility work.
It notes the brand is leasing around 17,697 feet. Google Maps show a “C” unit in the plaza next to Harbor Freight Tools.
The overhaul is estimated to cost $1 million, according to the filing.
The tentative start date for the work is listed as September, but such dates routinely change.
The site is across from Gage on Sixth, which recently opened its first phase of apartments, bringing hundreds of new units to the block, which was formerly home to a Kmart store.
The national chain did not immediately respond to request for comment on Wednesday about the new location.
On its website, Crunch Fitness advertises base memberships with access to a single location starting just under $15 a month with a 12-month commitment, and just under $20 for a month-to-month membership. Higher-priced memberships allow for access to other Crunch locations as well as classes and other services.
The brand has locations in Lakewood Towne Center and Silverdale, among other sites in the state, as well as locations in Oregon. Crunch has more than 400 franchised and corporate-owned fitness clubs globally.
