Hungry shoppers will soon have another option to choose from at Uptown Gig Harbor.

Poke Pop plans to open at the shopping center at the end of August or early September, depending on when it gets approval from the local health department, manager Kevin Chung told The News Tribune Aug. 7.

He’s been manager since April 2017 when he and his sister, the owner, opened the restaurant’s first location in Fircrest. The Gig Harbor restaurant will be their second.

The restaurant was originally called Aloha Poke before they changed the name to Poke Pop, according to their Instagram account.

Diners can choose from several Hawaiian poke bowl options or build their own with raw fish or unagi, vegetables, rice, seaweed, sauces and other components, according to the menu available on Uber Eats. There’s also musubi and onigiri as well as yubu, which are stuffed tofu pockets.

The menu at the Gig Harbor location will be exactly the same as the Fircrest location, Chung said.

He said the hours will also likely be the same. The Fircrest location is open Monday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Chung said.

The Gig Harbor location will be sandwiched between Kitsap Credit Union and the entrance to Galaxy Theatres, according to the Uptown Gig Harbor map.

Chung said the business had been looking across Pierce County for a place to open their second location, and the location at Uptown Gig Harbor was ideal because they were looking to buy an existing restaurant space that met their facility needs.

The space at 4747 Point Fosdick Dr. NW was formerly occupied by Formosa, an American cafe and diner with a menu including Taiwanese dishes. The News Tribune reported Formosa’s opening in Sept. 2022. The restaurant announced it was closing in June of this year on social media.

Poke Pop’s Fircrest location gets a lot of customers from Gig Harbor, Chung said.

“They are very excited that we are opening there,” he said.

Chung said those interested in staying in the loop about the new location can look for Poke Pop on Uber Eats and Doordash.
