A Tacoma driver was killed in a rollover crash near downtown Saturday afternoon, according to the Washington State Patrol.

His 61-year-old male passenger, also from Tacoma, was injured and taken to Tacoma General Hospital.

About 1 p.m., both men were headed south on Interstate 705, approaching the northbound exit to Interstate 5, according to State Patrol.

Troopers say George L. Neilan failed to negotiate a curve, the vehicle rolled and it wound up in a ditch. He died at the scene.

The road was blocked for more than three hours following the crash.
