Woman is killed in crash near Tacoma; driver faces vehicular homicide charge, cops say

A 27-year-old man, suspected of driving under the influence, now faces a vehicular homicide charge after he crashed his car overnight Sunday and killed his passenger, according to the Washington State Patrol.

About 2:15 a.m., the man and woman were headed south on state Route 167 in the area of 30th Street, which is near Fife and close to the Puyallup River.

Troopers say the man drove off the road and hit a pole, ejecting the 24-year-old Melody A. Anderson from the car. She died at the scene.

She was not wearing her seat belt, according to State Patrol. The driver was not injured.

Although the State Patrol identified the woman, a city of residence for her and the driver were still not known.
