Here’s something to honk about: Gas prices are down in Tacoma and WA, according to study
Filling up your car’s gas tank is never fun, but there is a bit of good news for Tacoma drivers.
In the past seven days, average gas prices in the city dropped by 5.8 cents, according to a new survey of 271 local stations by price-tracking company GasBuddy. The average cost per gallon here was $3.95 as of the Sept. 23 news release.
That number is also lower than it was a month ago by about 14.3 cents per gallon, according to the release. It’s nearly a dollar per gallon lower than a year ago, too.
The latest gas facts, according to GasBuddy:
Tacoma’s cheapest station is charging $3.35 per gallon
The city’s most expensive station is charging $4.49 per gallon
Washington’s lowest gas price is $3.13 per gallon
The state’s highest gas price is $5.59 per gallon
Washington is the third-costliest state in the nation when it comes to average gas prices, according to the AAA Gas Prices website. California is the most expensive, followed by Hawaii.
That said, the Evergreen State witnessed a 2.4 cent-per-gallon decrease over the past week, per GasBuddy.
Gasoline costs in Tacoma might have dropped in the past seven days, but they rose by 1.2 cents nationally for an average of $3.16 per gallon, the release says.
Tacoma has it relatively easy compared with its neighbor to the north, according to the release. Seattle’s per-gallon rate is currently $4.29 on average.
After the U.S. Federal Reserve slashed interest rates by a half-percent — more than previously expected — oil prices spiked, Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, said in the news release. Some states have witnessed higher gas prices because of that, while others have trended downward.
Most of the increases in gas prices are likely temporary, De Haan said in the release.
“While the future looks good for gas prices to continue trending lower for most in the weeks ahead,” De Haas added, “oil’s jump may mute the downside potential just a bit — for now.”
