SUV fatally strikes woman on state Route 7 in Pierce County early Monday morning

A woman is dead after she was struck by an SUV near Spanaway early Monday morning.

A 74-year-old man was driving his 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer north on state Route 7 near 208th Street East when he struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway at around 4:19 a.m. The Eatonville man reported the incident to 911, according to a Washington State Patrol news release.

The woman died at the scene, the release said. Traffic on northbound state Route 7 was blocked for the investigation. It cleared as of 7:44 a.m., the Washington State Department of Transportation reported on X.

The Eatonville man was uninjured and is not facing charges, the release said.
