A Central Washington University student who was reported missing after going on a hike at Mount Rainier National Park was found dead.
A welfare check was requested for 22-year-old Charles Tetreault on Sept. 23 after his employer said he missed a few days of work, according to Big Country News.
National Park Police found a receipt for Sept. 16 in Tetreault’s bag, which indicated that he entered the park, the story said.
He was found dead from a fall on Sept. 26 after he was hiking one of the trails in the Sunrise area of the park, an online obituary said. Tetreault was from Yakima.
Attempts to reach a National Park Service spokesperson at Mount Rainier National Park were unsuccessful Friday.
Tetreault died from multiple blunt force injuries. His manner of death was listed as an accident, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Tetreault was a clarinet music performance and instrumental music education major. He began playing the clarinet in the 5th grade, the obituary said.
The obituary said that Tetreault’s was as the principal clarinetist in the Central Washington Symphony Orchestra.
“Amongst his family members, he always looked forward to celebrations as much as simply spending time together. To his instructors and fellow students, known for his amazing character, dedication, kindness and musicianship. Above all, he had a quiet, but very strong faith in the Holy Trinity,” the obituary said.
