Woman, 79, dies after being hit by a car in Pierce County, State Patrol reports

A 79-year-old woman died after being struck by a car on state Route 7 in Spanaway on Wednesday, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The collision occurred at 5:46 a.m. near 20307 Mountain Highway East, according to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol.

The Spanaway woman was crossing the road from west to east when she was hit by a car headed north.

The driver was a 32-year-old woman from Graham who was allowed to leave the scene, the memo said. Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected of contributing to the incident, the memo said.
