Interim head of Tacoma private school died from natural causes, medical examiner finds
The interim leader of Charles Wright Academy died from natural causes last month, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Christopher Gorycki, 61, died from diabetic ketoacidosis on Oct. 28, the Medical Examiner’s Office said in a news release on Friday.
Gorycki started working at the private academy in early August, The News Tribune previously reported. He was selected to serve a two-year stint as interim head of the school.
“Our greater CWA community has quickly come together over these past few months under Chris’s leadership, and we will be forever grateful for his role in renewing the spirit of CWA and partnering with our community to create a positive path for the future,” the academy’s board said in an emailed statement to The News Tribune.
Gorycki helped the school “in so many ways” during the short amount of time he was with them, the academy wrote in an online obituary.
“When asked “Why Charles Wright Academy?” he would simply respond, “This school just needs a little more joy.” As our Interim Head of School, that is exactly what he did. He found bits and pieces of joy and capitalized on those moments,” the obit said.
