Woman dies after train hits pickup in Puyallup

A woman died Thursday when a train hit the pickup truck she was driving in Puyallup.

The northbound Sounder train headed to Seattle hit the woman’s vehicle shortly after 5 p.m. at East Pioneer and 15th Street Southeast, Puyallup police spokesman Scott Engle said.

“It appears she drove out and around the barrier and stopped her truck on the tracks and waited,” he said.

He described the woman as elderly. She has not been officially identified.

Trains were delayed after the fatality, but as of 5:30 p.m. were about to start moving again.
