A roadway in Fife is closed after a semi-truck crashed into an abandoned hotel Tuesday morning.

The westbound lanes on Pacific Highway at Port of Tacoma Road have been shut down from the crash. The Tacoma Fire Department and Fife Towing are on the scene, according to the police department.

Prior to the crash, a semi-truck driver was driving west through the intersection of Pacific Highway East when a second semi was making a right turn from Port of Tacoma Road, Fife Police Department’s Sgt. Daniel Goff told The News Tribune.

The second semi-truck made a turn into the lane that the first truck was already in and hit it. The initial semi-truck lost control, swerved across all the lanes on Pacific Highway East and crashed into the Rodeway Inn and Suites, Goff said. The hotel is permanently closed.

One of the semi-truck drivers had minor injuries, Goff said.

The police department will post an update when the roadway has reopened. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes.
