One person hospitalized after fire burns through structure of Pierce County residence

Fire crews in Lakewood put out a fire that burned through the structure of a residence early Saturday morning.

Crews were dispatched at 2:15 a.m. to the 4100 block of 109th Street Southwest. An accessory dwelling unit, or secondary residence, that is located beside the main family house was on fire, Nathan Johnson, emergency management coordinator of West Pierce Fire & Rescue, told The News Tribune.

One person was taken to a hospital, the fire department posted X at 4:13 a.m.

There was extensive damage to the property and three people were displaced, Johnson said. The fire was out by 3:38 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the post said. One part of the residence was completely burned through from the fire, photos indicate.
