Tacoma woman, thought to be flagging down someone for help, is hit by driver instead, cops say
A 26-year-old Tacoma woman was struck by a Puyallup driver Saturday night and later died at an area hospital, according to Puyallup police.
The Puyallup driver, who was not impaired, remained at the scene and called 911, according to police. However, the 31-year-old man was cited for driving with a suspended license and for not having proof of insurance, police say.
About 11 p.m., police and fire crews were dispatched to the driver-versus-pedestrian crash in the 2400 block of South Meridian in Puyallup.
Police learned that the woman and her two children had pulled into an area parking lot after their vehicle had become disabled, according to police.
They think she was trying to flag down someone for assistance when she was hit by the Puyallup man, who was headed north. She was taken to an area hospital, but later died about 2:40 a.m. Sunday, according to police.
