Motorcycle driver seriously injured in UP crash

A crash involving a motorcycle and a van halted traffic in University Place on Friday afternoon, and sent one man to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred at 1:20 p.m., said Tacoma police spokeswoman Loretta Cool. The motorcycle driver, 20, was headed north at the intersection of Bridgeport Way West and South 19th Street. The van, ahead of the motorcycle, abruptly turned left. The van driver, 56, might have suffered a heart attack, Cool said. The motorcycle crashed into the van.

Police barricaded the intersection, stopping traffic. The van driver was transported to a hospital with possible heart issues. The motorcycle driver was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries, Cool said.
