The meeting of land and sea is an often fraught union. Point Defiance’s Marina is no exception.

Erosion of the seawall near Anthony’s restaurant has resulted in closures to sidewalks near the eatery’s main entrance. Luckily for those in search of clam chowder and fish tacos, a gangway has been installed to allow entry and the eatery is fully open.

Sometime in the coming week, crews from Key Peninsula Construction should start work repairing the damage, according to Metro Parks Tacoma.

In April, engineers discovered a portion of the timber bulkhead underneath the concrete sidewalk had partially failed. The sidewalk was cordoned off.

Waves crashing into the wall had undermined the soil and gravel and destabilized the sidewalk’s foundation.

The repair project will take a few months to complete and Anthony’s at Point Defiance will remain open during construction, Metro Parks said. A temporary alternative entrance will be available at the Boathouse area.

Engineers have devised a construction plan that will prevent future damage, Metro Parks said.
