Tacoma Rescue Mission is planning to open a second Mission Thrift location in March, a senior director confirmed Tuesday.

The nonprofit will be taking over the space of another thrift store that’s closing, the Life Center Thrift Store at 6331 6th Ave., which was a ministry arm of Life Center church.

After discussions with Life Center and the building owner, Tacoma Rescue Mission took over the lease Jan. 1, Darrin Miller, Tacoma Rescue Mission’s senior director of community engagement, told The News Tribune on Tuesday.

The Life Center Thrift Store closed Dec. 31 as the director of the store retired, said Life Center senior pastor Tyler Sollie. Revenue generated from sales helped support benevolence work for the church, he said.

Tacoma Rescue Mission has operated the first Mission Thrift Store at 2502 6th Ave. in Tacoma for two-and-a-half years, Miller said. Sales generate between $5,000 and $12,000 a month and provide revenue for the nonprofit’s programs assisting people experiencing homelessness, he said.

In the future, Tacoma Rescue Mission will accept donations of clothing, housewares, shoes, furniture and other goods at the 6331 6th Ave. location as well as the 2502 6th Ave. location and its donation center at 504 S. 30th St., Miller said.

Prices will be marked in accordance to donations’ value, which could vary from $1 to $900 depending on the item and its quality, Miller said.

The new location will have the same hours as the store on 2502 6th Ave., 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, he said.
